Simple Word By Word
Simple captions: 1 word = 1 line. By default only one word is shown at a time and each word appears in its own time slice, then the next word. The default font is Arial Bold, which is installed on every Windows / Mac PC. Set "Words per screen" to 2–6 and that many words are stacked one under the other.
To change the font, type its PostScript name (or choose it from the drop-down). Safe fonts: Arial-BoldMT, Verdana-Bold, Tahoma-Bold, Helvetica-Bold.

For every caption the engine reads the text and decides on its own which word becomes the HERO (bigger, colored + Difference blend), which line is thin / bold / serif, and the position / alignment / font of each caption. Write *word* to force that word to be the hero. There are only two colors: the simple text and the Difference (hero) text — both default to white, change them as you like. Only one font family is used; the thin / bold / italic looks come from that family's weights. Word-by-word: now and then a sentence is written word by word (each word pops / fades / rises at its own time) — the engine picks these itself and never twice in a row; raise it with "Often" or "Every caption", turn it off with "Off".
The preview only shows colors. In After Effects the Difference blend is applied to the hero text, so the color shifts depending on the video behind it (like the reference). Layers stay editable text.
Glow Sweep Stack
Reference: Every / Single / Day. For each caption the engine picks one HERO word (bigger, orange-gold gradient + orange glow + CC Light Sweep), the words before it go above in a small italic line, and the words after it go below. Write *word* to force that word to be the hero. Light Sweep is After Effects' native CC Light Sweep effect (Center is keyframed) — layers stay editable.
In the preview the sweep is only a CSS animation. In After Effects the CC Light Sweep effect is applied to the hero layers (you can change Center / Width / Direction / Light Color in Effect Controls).
Yellow / White Word Stack
Reference: FRIEND (white) / HIM (yellow) — bold italic CAPS, thick black outline, 1 word = 1 line. Some words are yellow, some white. In Smart mode important / long / number words are yellow and short filler words are white. Force yellow: *word*, force white: _word. Set "Words per screen" to 1 to show only one word at a time (as in the screenshots). Every word is its own editable text layer.
Type the PostScript name of an installed font in the font box (or choose it from the drop-down). If no bold italic font is found, faux italic is used. The outline is placed behind the text (stroke behind fill), so the letters do not get thinner. In Random mode, change the seed to reshuffle the mix.
